In this arcade-style racing game, called "Top Gear," players race in one of four cars through more than eight different countries while avoiding sharp turns, stops, and other obstacles.

Players have a number of options when they initially start the game, including inputting their name, selecting one of four alternative controller layouts, and selecting an automatic or manual transmission.
Players will have to control the steering and change gears while racing (if they choose a manual transmission). The player also has control over three "nitros," which they can use to temporarily improve their speed. The words "gearbox" and "oil wipes," which come from the auto industry, are used in the game to save passwords.

Each password provides access to a different nation's race. There are pits where the player must refuel while racing. The player is eliminated if their vehicle runs out of gasoline and breaks down before the race is finished.
