How to play Commando (USA)

A soldier named Super Joe is dropped from a helicopter into a thick jungle, and the player has to fight his way out while a huge enemy attack is going on.

Super Joe has an assault gun that can fire any bullet and a limited number of grenades. Nobody can stop Joe from firing his gun in any of the eight directions he faces, but no matter which way he faces, he can only throw his bombs up and away from the screen. Instead of his assault rifle bullets, he can throw grenades to get rid of foes. If he places them correctly, the explosion can exterminate multiple enemies at once.

The game stops at the end of each level, and the player has to fight a lot of troops coming out of a gate or fortress. A dastardly cop tells them to run away, but shooting him in the back will give the player extra points. Along the way, you can try to save prisoners of war who are being moved around the screen by enemies.
