A side-scrolling platform game called Sonic CD is comparable to the first Sonic the Hedgehog. In order to prevent Dr. Robotnik, Sonic the Hedgehog's arch-enemy, from gaining the Magic Time Stone and taking control of the Little Planet, the player takes control of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Sonic can roll into a ball and use hoops as health to destroy enemies and things (including some walls and TV screens that carry energy).

Additionally, Sonic is capable of the moves "dash" and "super peel," both of which accelerate him. Seven levels are in the game. Levels are predetermined for the first and second games. Despite having the name "zones," in this game, the previously designated "activities" are now known as "rounds."
There are three zones in each round, and the last zone features a boss confrontation with Robotnik. Every time a player takes damage without having a ring, they lose one of their starting three lives, and if they lose all three, the game is over.

Features

Sonic can unlock a special screen where he must eliminate six UFOs in a simulated 3D world within a set amount of time by completing a level with more than 50 rings.
Running across the water quickly reduces time, but destroying a unique UFO that spawns at the end of time will extend it.

The Time Stone will be awarded if the player eliminates every UFO before the time runs out.

The best ending is unlocked by obtaining all seven Time Stones, which automatically produce a favorable future in every aspect.
