Secret of Monkey Island, The

A third-person view is used to play the 2D adventure game Secret of Monkey Island, The.
The player uses a point-and-click interface to control Guybrush Threepwood, the game's primary character. Twelve verb commands (nine in newer versions) are available to the player, including "talk to" and "pick up," which can be used to communicate with characters and collect items from commands and real-world objects in order to complete tasks and progress through the game.

When chatting with other characters, the player can select from a list of conversation topics in one of the first games to feature such a system.

The game's action is regularly interrupted by cutscenes. The player's character almost never dies in The Secret of Monkey Island because it uses the same design principles as other LucasArts adventure games.
