Dig Dug (rev 2) is a single-screen action game in which the player must construct vertical and horizontal passages in order to reach and destroy the creatures that reside underground. Dies is accomplished by either lowering pebbles onto them or inflating them to the point of explosion with an air pump.

How to play

The game features two distinct types of foes: „Pookas“, which are red, spherical creatures, and „Fygars“, which are green, fire-breathing dragons. Caves are initially imprisoned monsters, which have two possible escape routes: Dig Dug can unearth them, at which point they will begin pursuing the player. However, creatures can also vanish from a cave by transforming into spirits, after the allotted time has passed. They cannot be slain in this guise and are not limited to using tunnels for movement. Dig Dug moves more slowly on the surface and quicker in vertical tunnels than the creatures. Dig Dug will perish upon contact with them, and ‚Fygar‘ has the ability to murder him by inhaling fire onto him. Fygar is limited to horizontal firebreathing, but his flames are capable of penetrating solid soil. A creature that is only partially inflated will deflate progressively and regain its shape after a few seconds; However, Dig Dug can safely pass through it while it is deflating.

More points are awarded for killing foes that are subterranean at greater depths. Each screen contains four profundity levels, which become darker in hue, as one descends deeper underground. Additionally, horizontal explosions of Fygars result in a twofold increase in points; this is due to the fact that they can only exhale fire in a horizontal direction, rendering them a more formidable adversary.
