Wardner is a side-scrolling action-platformer in which the player controls Dover, the protagonist, through five different themed stages set in a fantasy land, with the main objective being to Rescue his girlfriend Mia from the main enemy by defeating his servants, some of whom act as bosses at the end of the level to progress further in the journey.
Some of the outstanding levels are linear, filled with obstacles and enemies, requiring the player to move across the stage by running, jumping, climbing, shooting, or dodging enemies, while the Other levels introduced later in the game become more like a maze and exploration, leaving the player to take different paths to reach the endpoint. Along the way, golden orbs can be picked up by defeating enemies to increase the player's character's firepower, as well as coins used in the shops at the end of each level to purchase protective items. new defenses and attacks, although some of them can also be obtained during the level.
